Mission type guides

#1

Notes for how various mission types work.

Definitions

  • Discovery Scannera device used to discover the stellar bodies in a system
  • Station — A place where ships can land whether in space, on or in a stellar body
  • Stellar Body — A star, planet, moon or asteroid belt
  • System — Collection of stellar bodies around a jump point

Assassination

Travel someplace and kill a specific single target.

  1. Travel to mission system
  2. Activate discovery scanner or scan the system’s nav beacon to determine in-system location to travel to
  3. Go to in-system location (typically a stellar body)
  4. Circle the location until a mission objective is revealed
  5. Drop into normal space at mission objective location
  6. Wait for additional ships to drop in — typically three ships flying in formation being attacked by the fourth. The fourth is your mission target.
  7. Asplode mission target
  8. Return to station where mission was obtained for turn in

Planetary Scan Mission

Travel to a planet or moon, land on it, and retrieve some data from a data link point.

Planetary Vehicle Hangar and SRV will be required

  1. Travel to mission system
  2. Activate discovery scanner or scan the system’s nav beacon to determine stellar body to land on
  3. Travel to stellar body, looking for target with “scan target” in title
  4. Select the target and descend but don’t land
  5. Scan target will “bounce” a couple times until you find the “real” target
  6. Land nearby
  7. Deploy SRV
  8. Drive SRV to nearby target and find “Data Link”
  9. Target the data link, pull up close
  10. Switch to turret (defaults to :xbox_x:)
  11. Hold “Data Link Scanner” weapon button (defaults to :xbox_lb:) until data is downloaded
  12. Return to ship
  13. Return to originating station

Mysterious Stranger Tip Off

Roughly the same thing as the Planetary Scan Mission above but you don’t need to return to the originating station to turn it in. Any station or planetary base with an Authority Contact will work. (Which, as far as I know, is pretty much any station or planetary base.)
